Forensic Pathologist I/II (29308) Sacramento County Coroner's Office is seeking Forensic Pathologist I/II.
Job Description: Forensic Pathologist (Level I) is the entry and training level of this class. Incumbents at this level are not yet Board certified and receive training in the specialty of forensic pathology as they learn to perform the medico-legal investigation of death or injuries. At the discretion of the appointing authority, incumbents may advance to the higher level after obtaining Board certification in Forensic Pathology.
Forensic Pathologist (Level II) is the experienced level in this specialized class and the targeted competency and performance level expected of all Forensic Pathologists. Working under general supervision, incumbents proficiently perform the full-scope of Forensic Pathology activities. Level II differs from Level I in that the incumbents in Level II are Board certified and exercise a higher level of independent judgment and discretion consistent with department policies, procedures and guidelines.
Salary Range: $226,230 - $263,996 Annually

Forensic Pathologist (1101647) Merced County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Forensic Pathologist.
Job Description: Under general direction, perform medico legal examinations including autopsies and external examinations in order to determine the cause and manner of death through varied information from law enforcement and the performance and findings of the autopsy or examination; medically investigate all sudden, unexpected or violent deaths within the County within all applicable laws and County regulations; and perform related work as required.
This is an at-will class and under the direction of and serves at the pleasure of the Sheriff/Coroner and reports to the Operations Commander. This single first level supervisor position in the County Coroner Office is designated as the “Forensic Pathologist” as enumerated in Government Code Sections 27490-27512. This position requires the incumbent to be a licensed physician and certified by the American Board of Pathology.
Examples of Duties:
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Perform medico legal examinations including autopsies and external examinations in order to determine the cause and manner of death through varied sources of information as the performance and findings of the autopsy or examination and varied information from law enforcement.
Provide cause and manner of death of those deaths coming under the jurisdiction of the Coroner and prepares detailed autopsy and external examination reports.
Perform or supervises laboratory work and medical case review.
Assist law enforcement agencies in search operations, excavations and recovery of bodies.
Perform chemical and/or microscopic examination of tissues and fluids, and submits samples of body fluids, tissues and other findings to laboratories for toxicology and clinical laboratory examination when analysis may be required.
Confer with judicial and law enforcement personnel and assists in interpreting autopsy findings for the purpose of reconstructing events leading to suspected homicides or suicides.
Give expert testimony at inquests, Coroner review processes, and in court trials.
May respond to death scenes and examine crime scenes where a death has occurred.
Supervises and assists deputy coroners in various aspects of the deputy coroner classification.
May have supervisory responsibilities over the receiving of decedants and assignment of coroner's investigation, including the maintenance of departmental records and communication activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience:
Necessary experience to provide the full range of forensic pathology duties in the State of California.
License:
Possess and maintain a medical license to practice medicine in the State of California.
Board certification in anatomical pathology and/or AP/CP Board certification.
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license issued by the California State Department of Motor Vehicles.
Skills And Abilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs autopsies and evaluates historical and law-enforcement investigative information in order to establish cause and time of death and whether death was due to natural causes, accident, suicide, homicide, or is undetermined.
Collects medical evidence such as trace evidence and secretions; performs chemical and/or microscopic examination of tissues and fluids, and submits samples of body fluids, tissues and other findings to laboratories for toxicology and clinical laboratory examination when analysis may be required.
Coordinate and cooperate with responding personnel regarding death certificate and release of body and/or organs, securing personal effects and belongings of the deceased, making notifications to next of kin and completing required reports.
Effectively and appropriately supervise and lead line staff.
Prepares detailed reports of findings, confers with judicial and law enforcement personnel and assists in interpreting autopsy findings for the purpose of reconstructing events leading to suspected homicides or suicides.
Communicate effectively with others in person, in writing, and over the telephone.
Analyze data, interpret policies, procedures and regulations, develop appropriate conclusions, and prepare reports.
Complete multiple priority projects with conflicting deadlines and under stressful conditions.
Resolve conflicts and respond appropriately to complaints.
Maintain confidential information in accordance with legal standards and/or County regulations.
Train, and provide medical oversight and consultation to staff.
Operate a personal computer and other office equipment.
Frequent use of depth perception, peripheral vision and color perception.
Frequently lift, carry, reach, push, pull, twist and manipulate large and small objects.
Occasionally kneel, bend, twist, squat, balance and crawl.
Frequent use of hand-eye coordination.

Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of modern medicine and techniques of autopsies.
Statute, ordinances, regulations and medicologal issues related to the Coroner’s Bureau.
The current and highly specialized techniques, investigative procedures and equipment applicable to forensic pathology including the applicability of toxicology, ballistics/firearm examination, trace evidence, forensic serology, forensic anthropology, and DNA testimony.
Rules and regulations applicable to court testimony.
Ability to:
Apply principles and techniques of modern forensic pathology.
Keep informed of current techniques, procedures and equipment in forensic pathology; conducts special research projects as assigned.
Perform highly skilled post-mortem examinations.
Review and evaluate complex investigations and autopsy reports to establish a cause of death.
Communicate effectively with others in person, in writing, and over the telephone.
To serve as an expert witness in a court of law, inquests and legal proceedings.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with others.

Forensic Pathologist, Per Diem United Forensic Services, P.C., is seeking an experienced forensic pathologist for occasional per diem forensic autopsy coverage for the northern California counties of Napa and Marin.
Locations: Napa and Marin Counties (San Francisco Bay area)
Qualifications: Board certification in forensic pathology by the American Board of Pathology is preferred; 5 years minimum experience performing forensic autopsies; current license to practice medicine in California; excellent verbal communication skills; sound technical ability during the performance of medicolegal autopsies; ability to provide accurate and unbiased death certification, and to generate detailed written autopsy reports.
Workload: Approximately 1 - 2 autopsies per day, or 4 - 7 autopsies per week
Salary range: Per Diem, Occasional
Compensation: Compensation and terms are negotiable, commensurate with qualifications, training and experience.
